Cargo Boat Development Company PLC (CBD) incorporated in 1980, is a public listed company that is currently trading in the Sri Lankan stock exchange since 1991. The company has a commercial real estate arm and an investments arm.

Three public (unlisted) companies owned by Mr. Ravi Thambiayah have the majority shareholding in Cargo Boat Development Company PLC. CBD is a family business that is operated by Mr. Ravi Thambiayah (the Chairman), his daughter Niruja Thambiayah (the Managing Director) and a vey capable board of directors.

Cargo Boat Development Company PLC is an associate company of the Renuka Hotels group and is led by several of the same directors. The majority shareholdings of Renuka Hotels PLC and in turn Renuka City Hotels PLC (which are also listed on the Colombo stock exchange) also lie with Mr. Ravi Thambiayah.

CBD Policies

Cargo Boat Development Company PLC has owned the land at 41, Janadhipathi Mawatha, Colombo 01 since 1980. The landmark building in Fort (now known as the CBD Business Centre) was built in 1983 and was one of the first high rises in Fort Colombo 1. It underwent a full renovation in 2020 and is now occupied by foreign and local companies that were looking for contemporary office space in the heart of Colombo’s business district at a very reasonable rent.

The newly-renovated CBD Business Centre holds its prime Fort address at 41 Janadhipathi Mawatha, Colombo 1; located right opposite the Central Bank and is within walking distance of the World Trade Center. The building notably offers its residents the exclusive advantage of access through both Hospital Street and Janadhipathi Mawatha, with panoramic views overlooking Colombo city, its harbor, Port city, and the ocean.
